Levies
The Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment may fix a levy for each prescribed region of petroleum lands after considering recommendations made by the Management Board. The Minister is not bound by recommendations made by the Management Board.
Prescribed regions of petroleum lands in onshore areas of the Northwest Territories are:
- Southern NWT;
- Central NWT;
- Northern NWT;
- Mackenzie Delta; and,
- Arctic Islands.
The levy rate is set per hectare of lease area under the control of an interest owner.
The Minister may, based on a recommendation of the Management Board, exempt an interest owner from the payment of levies into a sub-account if the owner has been denied access to territorially administered land or if the planned activity is prohibited.
An interest owner is not liable to pay levies to support the fund in their sub-region if its interest has been surrendered before the deadline for payment.
